What are Raw and Living Foods?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. All of the food in this cuisine is raw, but only sprouted grains and seeds are living. Raw kale is full of enzymes, minerals and fiber. However, after harvesting it is removed from its own source of nutrition from the earth and is slowly losing its nutritional value and will soon decay. Sprouted grains and seeds are living. Take a sprouted bean from your salad plant it and care for it and in due time you will have a healthy vibrant plant. None of the dishes are heated above 110 degrees with 105 being optimal for preserving the foods natural life giving enzymes.

Why Raw Foods?

The standard American diet (SAD) has not led to increased health and vitality. In fact, food related ailments are on the rise. Our heavy animal source centered diet has led to rampant obesity and adult forms of diabetes and in children. Heart disease is the number one killer in America. We are thankful to the men and women who make medicine their life’s work. Their contribution to humanity is obvious. But we must remember, they are human, fallible and do not have the market cornered on health knowledge. It’s not good enough to leave our well-being in the hands of the government and health care industry anymore. WE must take responsibility for our bodies and care. As someone once said, “Doctor’s will get off their pedestals when patients get off of their knees.” One of the simplest and most healthful things we can give our bodies is fresh organic fruits , vegetables and sprouted legumes eaten as close to their natural state as possible and plenty of pure water.

Some of the benefits of a raw /living foods diet as reported by raw-foodist are:

  • Increased energy
  • Weight loss
  • Stronger hair and nails
  • Reduced or eliminated allergy symptoms
  • Normalized blood pressure
  • Normalized blood sugar levels
  • Better sleep
  • Better bowel eliminations
  • Decreased body odor
  • Decreased or eliminated PMS and menopause symptoms
  • Reversed signs of aging (some people have report that their gray hair turned back to its original color!)
  • Reversed heart disease
  • Remission of cancer

The list goes on. We do not suggest that if anyone is taking medication for any condition that they stop and adopt a raw foods diet immediately. Abruptly stopping medication can be very dangerous. Talk to your physician about the changes that you want to make. Then together you can slowly incorporate them into your life. If your doctor is resistant, seek out another who is more knowledgeable about natural healing. The health care crisis in America should not be about people trying to find insurance coverage; it should be about doctors searching for work because everyone is so healthy!
